The Uses And Side Effects Of HGH
HGH is used by people who have a misconceived notion that it can keep them feeling and looking younger. Experts, however, have a different opinion. They believe that the human growth hormone does not have any such properties and can, in fact, be harmful.
HGH is produced by the pituitary gland and is helpful for the development of children and adolescents. It can help in regulating body composition, muscle and bone growth, sugar and fat metabolism and perhaps even the functioning of the heart. The commercially available versions of HGH is a combination of various prescription drugs and other products that are widely available over the Internet.
The Use Of HGH
It was in 1985 when synthetic HGH was developed and received approval from the FDA for specific usage among children and adults. HGH injections are approved for children to treat short stature and poor growth resulting from certain medical conditions such as:
- Turner’s syndrome, which is a genetic disorder that affects girls.
- Chronic kidney disease.
- HGH deficiency or insufficiency.
- Children too small for gestation.
The approval of HGH for adults has been provided for the following reasons:
- Short bowel syndrome, which is a condition where the nutrients are improperly absorbed because of severe disease to the intestine or in cases where a major portion of the small intestine has been removed surgically.
- Pituitary tumors and the treatment provided causing HGH deficiency.
- Muscle wasting diseases that are associated with HIV-AIDS.
Abuse
Despite being approved by the FDA for certain uses, HGH is being widely abused for reasons that are not approved by the FDA. People are using HGH in combination with other performance enhancing drugs like anabolic steroids in order to build muscle and to improve athletic performance. However, the effects of HGH on the performance of athletes is unknown.
HGH levels within the body naturally decrease with age. Certain people have raised speculations that HGH could be used as an anti-aging remedy. These claims are unsubstantiated, and the use of HGH for such claims is not approved by the FDA.
Many people, however, get HGH injections from doctors who prescribe it for purposes that are defined as off-label. Pharmacies over the Internet and anti-aging clinics are also promoting these HGH injectables.
Synthetic versions of HGH pills and sprays can also be purchased from many companies that are marketing the products online and promoting them via commercials over the television. They are making unsubstantiated claims that the products can provide various benefits to the users and even reverse the biological clock on the body. No evidence is available to prove the claims because, when taken orally, HGH is digested by the stomach before it is absorbed into the body.
HGH Hazards And Side Effects
The side effects of the use of synthetic HGH can include the following:
- Swelling due to fluid in the tissues of the body.
- High cholesterol levels.
- Numbness and tingling of the skin.
- Carpal tunnel syndrome.
- Muscle, nerve or pain in the joints.
Synthetic HGH can increase the risks of diabetes and could perhaps contribute to the growth of tumors of the cancerous variety.
Synthetic HGH is often being sold illegally. Due to the high cost of the drugs, they have often been counterfeited. You could be getting a counterfeit product if you are not getting HGH from an approved practitioner.
Considering the abuse, hazards and side effects of synthetic HGH, you should always consult your doctor before considering HGH for any reason.
