Tips On Looking Fit And Fabulous At 50
With age comes many changes. One we don’t like admitting to is the change in our physical appearance. Getting older doesn’t mean you have to let go and not feel good about your beauty. Truth be told – Looking and feeling gorgeous don’t happen overnight. There are no magic elixir or fountain of youth.
The good news is that you can still be fit and beautiful regardless of your age. Without doing vigorous exercise and depriving yourself of delicious foods, you too can age with beauty.
Watch What You Eat
The older we get, the more critical it is to watch what we eat. Your body is a reflection of the things you put into it. Having healthy eating habits will not only prolong a healthier life, but it can also give you more energy.
Bad eating habits can lead to health problems like heart disease and cholesterol. When we are younger, our bodies burn calories much faster, and as we get older, our calorie intake should decrease. Most activities which require a higher intake of carbohydrates have been stopped since we aren’t as active as we once were. Your body needs fewer calories, the older it gets.
Not only should you be mindful of the foods you eat, but also consider the amount of alcohol you drink. Cigarettes that contains nicotine and alcohol are terrible for one’s body, especially when it’s taken in excess. The moment an individual quits smoking, their body goes into immediate healing. When you don’t stop your body won’t go into healing.
Build Stamina
Yes, the older we get, the more we begin to stagnate. We’ve been running around our whole lives, and now we want to slow things down.
Exercising is just as important to older people as it is to younger adults. Exercising has enormous benefits as it helps you to build stamina, flexibility, and endurance. It also strengthens the muscles and bones — overall resulting in a healthier and stronger body.
The secret to exercise is simple; Take it step-by-step. There’s no need to jump into a full-on cardio and weight lifting session at your nearest gym. A simple walk around the park, hiking an easy course, swimming, stretching, or riding a bicycle is enough to stay active and fit.
Get Moving
Newton’s first law of inertia states, “A body will continue in its state of rest or uniform motion unless it is compelled to do otherwise by an external force.”
Imagine what it would be like if a fifty-year-old (or even a thirty-year-old) had the constant routine of sitting in front of the television while eating bags of potato chips and drinking soda.
The result of a stationary lifestyle is weakened bones and muscles. It’s essential to move around to maintain a proper body function.
Just like Newton stated, an external force is required to return the body to equilibrium. Find something to keep you busy. Being active in the kitchen or simple gardening or walking the dog is ample enough to get the blood flowing and the body moving.
Avoid Stress
Maintaining a healthy mindset is very important for staying physically fit. Our minds and bodies are connected. Join fun activities and find happiness within yourself. Try not to isolate yourself and continue spending time with your loved ones. Avoid stressing over unimportant things and relax while you are at it. As we get older, we can go into a stressful mindstate, follow doctor’s advice on how to cope with the stress that comes with old-age.
Routine Check-Ups
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that everybody, regardless of our age, should go for regular doctor check-ups. There’s no need to be stubborn. Doctors are trained to spot any early signs of severe illnesses, and it is better to take precaution and prevention against diseases. Doctors may advise patients to take any additional vitamin or body strengthening supplements. Ask your pharmacist for any other herbal or natural supplements to help your body maintain its proper working order.
There is no reason why you can’t look fit and feel physically strong at an old age. By applying the above methods into your everyday life, you will be able to achieve and maintain a healthy and happy long-lasting life. Rather slow and steady than not at all.
