Headache? Constipation? Nausea? Your Kitchen Is Packed With Natural Remedies!
Before modern medicine, people from all over the world used natural herbs and plants to cure general illnesses. Home remedies have been passed down through generations and have surprisingly proven to cure general aches and pains.
Below is a list of some of the best home remedies that thousands of people around the world swear by. Most of these ingredients are found in the cupboards of your kitchen and can be easily purchased in your local grocery store.
If you’re looking for natural solutions for daily aches and illnesses, check it out!
Ginger Root – Nausea
A few grams of ginger root in tea or eaten raw is an excellent home remedy for nausea. Gingerol and Shogaols are some of the potent ingredients present in ginger root. They help inhibit the part of the brain that controls nausea and vomiting, making fresh ginger very helpful in relieving seasickness.
Sesame Seeds – Toothache
When your gums are infected, you will experience bad toothaches. Surprisingly, sesame seeds contain many pain-relieving compounds. Boil water on the stove and pour four teaspoons full of sesame seeds in it. Leave the water to cool, then dip a cotton bud into the water and place the liquid onto the area where the tooth is in pain.
Fennel – Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Anethole is an essential oil that is found in fennel. This powerful essential oil acts as an anti-inflammatory that reduces localized inflammation in the digestive system. Fennel tea can also be consumed to alleviate stomach cramps and even pains associated with a woman’s period. It may not be the tastiest option, but it is a natural option for dealing with severe stomach aches.
Kiwi Fruit – Insomnia
Who would have thought it, right? Not getting enough sleep is one of modern life’s biggest problems. Tossing and turning in bed at night, trying to fall asleep, can cause further stress and frustration. Sound familiar? Have some kiwis for supper to help you fall asleep at night. If you have a severe struggle with insomnia, then eat two kiwis about an hour before bedtime. These tropical fruits contain high levels of serotonin and folate that helps with a good night’s rest.
Garlic – Stomach Bug
Not only does garlic keep vampires away, but it is a genius solution to stomach bugs. When eaten raw, it contains the antibiotic and antifungal compound – Allicin. When cooked, however, these antibiotics are destroyed. Garlic, when eaten natural, kills bacteria and acts as an immunity booster. Not great for your breath, but perfect for your stomach.
Chilies – Joint Pain
Nothing aches more than a painful joint. Chilies contain Capsicum, which increases the chemical that is used to signal pain in the brain. How is that helpful? After signaling, it will be re-evaluated by nerves, which, in effect, stops the pain signal to the brain. An excellent home remedy for sprained ankles or muscle pains.
Olive Oil – Constipation
Olive oil is one of the healthiest fats there is, and it’s usually an excellent substitute for conventional oils used in cooking. Among its many benefits, the consistency and texture of this natural oil are perfect for dealing with constipation. If you mix it with a little bit of lemon juice, olive oil will stimulate the digestive system. When consumed regularly, it can prevent bowel blocage and relieve it.
Coffee – Headaches
Here is some excellent news for all the coffee-holics out there; When the blood vessels in our heads expand, we get headaches. The caffeine that is present in coffee constrict and decrease the vessels’ expansions. Fun fact: Caffeine is found in many over the counter painkillers. It can make up almost 40% of painkiller medication!
Honey – Burns and Chapped Lips
Honey is one of nature’s most wondrous substances made. This sweet, thick bees-produce contains many anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. When directly applied to the lips, it can soften and heal. Although it will be very tempting to lick it off, leave honey to dry on your lips for maximum results. Honey is also useful for treating minor burns as the anti-inflammatory properties improve healing.
Of course, home remedies won’t be able to cure acute medical problems. Mother Nature does her part when it comes to soothing general colds and flu. Instead of rushing to the nearest chemist for your general aches and pains, try using one of the above-mentioned home remedies for more natural, and often cheaper relief.
