Is The Blood-Type Diet for You?
There are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of different diets out there today. Deciding on which one to follow isn’t easy. However, one that has gained quite a bit of interest among the many is the blood type diet. The idea that people’s diets should be according to their blog type if they want to be healthier.
How it Works
This diet builds on the idea that there is a close relationship between blood type and our body’s ability to digest certain foods and food groups. Following the proper diet, according to blood type, is supposedly to improve digestion.
Besides that, it helps maintain ideal body weight, increases energy levels, prevents disease, particularly heart disease and cancer. Here we take a look at the general blood types and the diet suggestions for each blood group. The suggestions also take into account if you are positive or negative of a certain blood group. The diet suggestions also include spices and condiments you should consume. Yes, it’s a pretty extensive diet plan!
O-Blood Type
People who have type O blood types should follow a diet that is high in protein. You should count heavily on meat, fish, and poultry as their protein sources. They should also consume fewer foods that fall into the category of grains, dairy, and legumes. People with O-blood types tend to have a lot of stomach issues, like indigestion and bloating, and so there is also an assortment of supplements suggested helping with this as well. For those concerned about weight loss in this blood group, they should eat more seafood, kelp, red meat, spinach, broccoli, and olive oil.
A-Blood Type
People who have blood type A should be eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables, and plenty of legumes and whole grains. People with this blood type apparently have a sensitive immune system.
So they should eat organic and very fresh foods. It is best for their health if they follow a meat-free diet. For those after weight loss, it suggests eating more soy, pineapples, vegetables, and olive oil.
B-Blood Type
People with type B blood have many foods they should avoid. Foods like corn, lentils, buckwheat, wheat, peanuts, tomatoes, and sesame seeds are also off the grocery lists. They also should avoid chicken and try to eat more eggs, green vegetables, and certain meats as well as low-fat dairy. However, like many foods, as they should avoid, their diet should be more balanced and diverse. To start shedding pounds, people with this blood type can eat more liver, eggs, and green vegetables.
AB-Blood Type
The rarest blood type of them all! People of this blood type should focus on increasing their intake of foods like tofu, dairy, seafood, and green vegetables. People with AB blood type tend to have low stomach acid. They should avoid alcohol, caffeine, and smoked or cured meats.
Since this blood group is a combination of A and B, people of this group adopt the low-stomach acid of A- blood types but also the meat adaptability of B-blood types. Be warned, though – since your body is less able to metabolize meat, your body might store the meat you eat as fat!
The Science
Unfortunately, there is not much scientific data to support this blood group diet. Studies show that people’s health improves when they follow the blood type diet. But there’s no proof that it is for any specific blood group. There is no sufficient research data that proves that eating specific food types is better for certain blood groups. Neither does it prove that avoiding certain foods, helps you any more than if any other blood group followed the same diet. However, following the diet will likely lead to better health and weight loss as it is restrictive and is low-carb and a whole-food diet.
Of course, there’s no way to follow this diet if you don’t know what your blood type is, so if you don’t, that should be the very first thing to do if you’re interested in following the Blood Type Diet. There are many limitations to follow for each blood group. So there is a high level of effort to follow this diet. However, it may be the diet that you are on a search for…who knows!
