Bipolar Disorder Compelled Hasley To Visit Psychiatric Hospital Twice
Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, also known as Hasley, badly desires to maintain quality mental health. Unfortunately, the youthful, talented musician was diagnosed with bipolar disorder eight years ago, when she was only 17. Hasley recently confessed that she admitted herself to a psychiatric hospital twice, in a frantic attempt to avoid manic depressive periods. While addressing The Rolling Stone, the twenty-four-year-old said that her recent financial success had enabled her to both support her family and seek treatment, so she can now take better care of her mental health.
The singer-songwriter says she wasn’t going to wait till things got bad, and wants to nip the bud right at the start. She now pens her music mostly about her experiences with her bipolar episodes. These episodes often oscillate between manic highs and depressive lows.
Right now, the rapper is working on her new album. Manic periods tend to take a patient’s thoughts into upsetting past events, which makes them controlled by his or her impulses rather than logic. Halsey explains that sometimes when she is on a high place, a strange thought comes into her mind: whether to jump off or if not to. This kind of thinking is a typical example of what Hasley and others suffering from this disorder have to deal with.
But don’t you worry about her – Hasley knows how to take care of herself. As she told The Rolling Stone: “I’ve been committed twice since [I became] Halsey, and no one’s known about it. But I’m not ashamed of talking about it now. It’s been my choice. I’ve said to [my manager], ‘Hey, I’m not going to do anything bad right now, but I’m getting to the point where I’m scared that I might, so I need to go figure this out.’ It’s still happening in my body. I just know when to get in front of it.”
This brave young woman sure is an inspiration to anyone battling with mental health issues.
