Shania Twain Had an Open-Throat Surgery But Now She’s Back!

The Canadian country singer, Shania Twain, has recently opened up about her struggles with dysphonia. This condition is a result of Lyme disease and is quite tragic for a vocalist to deal with. Shanaia said it was a secret she kept for a very long time.

In an interview with Extra, the singer opened up about her condition: “I had to have an operation that was very intense and it’s an open-throat operation, very different from a vocal cord operation. I had to have two of them, so that was really, really, really tough and I survived that — meaning emotionally I survived — and am just ready to keep going.”

Twain had to go through a lot of mental distress before and after her surgeries. To her, it was utmostly disheartening to lose the very skill that defined her and was her instrument in pursuing her passion for music. Even though the operations were successful, they came with a toll. Shania had to struggle with her new voice, as the surgeries made it a little rusty. Taking a long break off the music scene, Twain finally returned with her new album in 2017 titled Now.

Shania says she learned a lot from her disease and got to know more about her voice and its possibilities. “I was very scared for a little while that I wouldn’t sing again, ever. I went through that moment, but I found a way. I found a way to do it.” The singer disclosed in an interview with 60 Minutes Australia.

In 2010, Shania started her own foundation called Shania Kids Can, intending to help children in crises to get better living conditions. Currently, her second go-round tour, Let’s Go! is starting on 6th December 2019. The tickets will be sold for $60 each, and $1 from every ticket would go into the Shania Kids Can Foundation.
