Five Things That Are Slowing Down Your Weight Loss
We all know this scenario: We start a new weight loss plan, and at first, we feel incredibly motivated to exercise and eat healthy to reach our goal. We start losing weight, and we feel physically better, but then there is a point where everything slows down. As time moves on our perseverance fades, and we fall back into the same unhealthy habits. Our weight loss has come to a complete halt, and we have no idea why.
If you are burdened by the question, “Why aren’t I losing weight?” Below is a list of reasons why most individuals find their weight loss journey moving slower than it should.
Putting Too Much Effort into the Wrong Exercise
Exercising is like a pair of denim pants; it won’t fit every body type. You must find an exercise plan that best suits your needs.
It seems like the logical conclusion that if you want to lose weight, you need to start jogging. While cardio workouts are essential, they’re not enough. Focusing solely on aerobic exercise leads to metabolic slowdown. It needs to go along with other kinds of exercises to help you lose weight.
One of the forms of exercise most individuals fail to include in their fitness routines is resistance training. Resistance training has to do with the lifting of weights. Lifting of weights has been proven to be very beneficial to individuals seeking a long-term fat burning solution. Combining it with other forms of exercise will speed up the weight loss journey.
Inconsistent Exercise Routines
To lose weight effectively, you need to be consistent in following a fitness routine. Perseverance is key. If you exercise 3-days in a row but then skip a whole week before returning to exercising, you are putting a halt on any chance of losing weight at a gradual and consistent manner. Find an exercise routine that suits you, and that you can follow consistently, and stick to for months. Trying to push yourself too hard will make you give up and skip training sessions. Find a plan that works for you, and you’ll see that sticking to it for months and even years on end is almost effortless!
Track-Keeping
Failure to keep a good progress report of one’s weight loss could lead to wrong conclusions. This has been known to discourage many people who are trying to lose weight. It ends up leaving them with the idea that whatever their doing is not working.
There are many things to keep in mind when we go on a weightloss journey. It’s not only the pounds we shed that count. Losing fat while doing cardio and weight lifting is great, but during that time you may have gained a few extra pounds in muscle. To you, it might seem like you aren’t losing any weight, when in fact you are gaining muscle.
Consult a professional to help you calculate your bodies BMI score as well as your progress.
Unhealthy Eating Habits
You can exercise as much as you want, but if you are eating an unhealthy diet, you can kiss weight loss goodbye. If you’re aiming to lose weight, you need to combine a regular exercise routine with healthy and nutritional eating habits.
Indulging in fast foods that filled with chemicals and sugar slows down weight loss. Doing it from time to time is harmless, but if you consume processed, fatty foods regularly, you obviously won’t reach your goal.
Another factor is not being mindful of what and when you eat. Eating late at night, especially junk food, or not getting enough fresh nutrients from homegrown veggies will have a negative effect on your bodies weight. It’s difficult to choose between a delicious chocolate cake and boring green broccoli. Look around for healthy AND tasty recipes to help yourself make better choices when it comes to food.
Sleep Routine and Hydration
The lack of sleep can harm our body’s function. It’s required to get between 6-8 hours of undisturbed sleep each night. Not only does it help you to focus and perform at a higher level, but it also speeds up your metabolism. The same goes for drinking enough water. Our bodies are almost 60% H2O, and if we don’t stay hydrated, our bodies will start acting out. Drinking enough water daily is just as important as getting enough sleep.
The most important thing to remember during your weight loss journey is that you should keep pushing through and stay motivated. Partake in exercises that make you feel excited and interested. If you continue on this long but rewarding road, you’ll reach your weight loss goal eventually!
