Thundering footsteps echoed down the stairs as the boys stifled their breaths in anticipation. They fervently hoped the men wouldn’t notice them, and somehow their prayers were answered. The men descended the stairs and soon reached the puddle of water on the floor.
As if confident that they were alone on the ship, the men splashed through the water with no care in the world. They were heading directly for the hidden door. Jeff bravely peeked out of his hiding place to see what would happen next. And the shock was evident on his face as he watched the men unlock the door and pull it open.
