River Phoenix – Illegal Substance Overdose
For many fans of the mega-blockbuster franchise, Indiana Jones, River Phoenix was the man of the hour as he played young Indiana Jones in the third film, The Last Crusade. He was a mainstay in both the musician and film circles. Phoenix was a great actor having being nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actor category for his portrayal in the film Running on Empty. His acting was also critically acclaimed, as demonstrated by his awards, such as the Volpi Cup for Best Actors at the Venice Film Festival.
He died on the morning of October 31, 1993, from an illegal substance overdose. After multiple attempts to resuscitate failed, it was reported that his heart had already collapsed and stopped functioning. He should have had addiction treatment when he was alive. His acting success, particularly at the young age of 23, made him an icon for many prospective actors.
