Martin Luther King Jr., 1956
Martin Luther King Jr. has changed American history forever. The fight for freedom did come with a price, and he was arrested numerous times throughout his early years. In 1956, King was famously arrested in Montgomery, Alabama while protesting in the Rosa Parks bus boycotts. In 1963 he was arrested for the second time and sent to jail after protesting ill-treatment of African Americans in Birmingham, Alabama.
Martin Luther King’s protests bore sweet fruits as he won the Nobel Peace Prize one year later in 1964 for combatting racial inequality through nonviolent resistance. He was only 35-years-old at the time. His groundbreaking speech, I have a dream is still famous today and inspires millions around the world.
