For people who would rather have a more conventional pet, a dog or cat can make a wonderful friend. But the people of Dubai have a real soft spot for keeping rare and unusual pets at home. Some “Emiratis” have huge cats like tigers or cheetahs in their homes as a sign of wealth and rank, while others prefer the slower and less agile animals. Someone in Dubai might stumble upon a neighbor who keeps a collection of very rare pet turtles.
It’s true that desert tortoises are one of the most popular species to keep as pets since they don’t need a huge pool of water, but that doesn’t make them the most lovable or docile reptiles. You should build a big pond in the backyard and get a turtle or something.
