Epic Beach Fails: When Seaside Fun Goes Wrong

There’s No Stopping These Beach Ponies

Assateague Island, located between Maryland and Virginia near the Delmarva Peninsula, is renowned for its wild ponies. Facing the Atlantic, the 37-mile-long barrier island is divided into two sections, with most of the park in Maryland. Due to their harsh environmental conditions, the ponies are smaller than their typical counterparts, but they are still a sight to behold.

Tourists often spy ponies taking shade under beach umbrellas or enjoying a snooze while over 320 other species, including shorebirds, waterbirds, and raptors, inhabit the island. Attracting visitors from afar, Assateague is a true paradise for horse lovers, so visit it if you can.
