Michael began the transformation of the bus by clearing it out completely. He wanted it to be a tabula rasa or clean slate, so he removed the seating and stripped the interior. With the help of his stepfather, he removed all the bolts from under the bus, which was a laborious task.
Michael later realized the job would have been much easier with an angled grinder, but he hesitated to use power tools then. After he finished, he could see the true potential of the bus and was energized to keep going. He was eager to see a new life on this bus.
