Sweden has a noteworthy history of women serving in the armed forces. Since the government granted them permission to enroll in 1989, they have been actively enrolled in every military branch, including combat roles, and by 2022, they made up 22 percent of the Swedish army. However, Carin du Rietz is a standout figure in Swedish military history.

In the 18th century, Rietz disguised herself as a man to join the Royal Guard and became the first female member of the unit. She demonstrated her bravery by breaking down gender barriers, which opened up the path for future generations of women, and it’s remarkable to see.
