“Someone, please get her a glass of water,” Abel’s mother said when she noticed Hailey couldn’t stop crying. She crouched down beside her and wrapped her arms around her. “It’s okay dear. Let it all out. You’re okay.” After a while, Sarah was able to get back up.
Her mother-in-law walked her toward the kitchen, and she did her best to avoid looking directly at anyone. Someone got hold of a microphone and announced that the events would be halted for now, so guests were invited to enjoy the food laid out. But Abel and his bride followed Hailey into the kitchen. There was a lot of explaining to do.
