Connie, Abel’s mother, decided to be the spokesman. “I’m going to explain this to you as best as possible, dear, and you have to promise you’ll listen. But you have to calm down, okay?” Hailey nodded. She had settled into a chair and felt a sort of calmness sink over her. Something deep within her told her no one was lying about the divorce. Maybe, she was crazy after all.
“This can’t keep happening, dear. Abel deserves better, and so do you.” Connie went on. “You had a nervous breakdown after you lost the baby. Abel couldn’t handle it alone, so he had to send you away.”
