2. Artificial “Palm Island”
With an appraised value of $12 billion

The Palm Islands were built for less than €12 billion over the course of six years, with funding coming from Dubai’s huge oil revenues. A fleet of dredgers worked non-stop to remove and evenly distribute the 120 million cubic meters of sand pulled from the seabed to form the trunk and branches of the tree, all with the help of a high-tech GPS system. With a combined size of over 600 football fields, the Palm Jumeriah is home to around 15,000 residences along the boardwalks of its 17 fronds and 6,000 in its trunk.
They could build a wall three times the height of the earth and as wide as the sand used to build the Jumeriah Palm. An estimated 3,319,000,000,000,000 cubic feet of sand was dredged from the sea floor for this project. Seven million tons of granite from the Hajar mountains are used for the foundations of The Palm alone.
